Wetlands Conservation Act

WCA

The goal of the Wetland Conservation Act is to ensure no net loss of the remaining wetlands in the state.  This was enacted by the State legislature to protect wetlands that do not fall under farm program regulations.

WCA states that no draining or filling of wetlands will take place.  If an application is made in advance, wetlands may be altered and replaced in another area.  These circumstances result in replacing at least two acres for every one acre that is altered.  Some activities may not require replacement.

If you are planning any project that might affect any type of wet area, even digging a wildlife pond, we encourage you to stop by our office for a determination.  We can inform you if your project is under the jurisdiction of the Wetland Conservation Act.
