| March 2008 Kevin Holl has been named new
Regional Director for CDI Region 6.
The 2008 scholarship winners are Matthew Burt and Daniel Hemesath.
Burt's application will be entered for the regional and state
competition. |
April 2008 Prepared a resolution to recommend
a change to the criteria for scholarship applications.
Viewed 130 posters entered in the 2008 poster contest, "Water Is
Life", and selected winners in each grade level.
Heard about the Union Grove Lake watershed project.
Finalized plans for a public meeting announcing the sign-up for the
Conservation Security Act (CSP). |

June 2008 Conducted the annual conservation
tour, visiting three farms with assorted conservation practices.
Welcomed new NRCS State Conservationist Richard Sims and Assistant
State Conservationist Karen Woodrich.
Approved support for the conservation display tent along the RAGBRAI
route through Marshall County.
Approved a contribution to the Marshalltown High School Envirothon
team, who will be traveling to Arizona for the National competition.
Reviewed procedures for the 2008 General Election. Three
commissioner terms are expiring.
Observed that the State Soil Conservation Committee has reduced the
maintenance agreement for cost-shared grassed waterways to 10 years.
Made plans to host the CDI regional meeting in August. |
| July 2008 Reviewed Buffer Initiative
incentives available through the Division of Soil Conservation for
several practices in the continuous CRP program.
Examined changes in REAP cost share rules, especially the cost
guidelines for windbreaks.
Received the annual allocation of cost share funds.
Considered the range of cost share opportunities available to assist
in the repair of storm-damaged conservation practices. |
August 2008 Hosted the Fall Regional meeting
for Conservation Districts of Iowa. Region 6 includes 10 counties
in central Iowa.
Approved 15 applications for conservation cost share, which used up
the entire regular allocation of cost share funds. Supplemental
funding is expected in September.
Reviewed current information on the guidelines for safeguarding
Personal Identification Information.
Congratulated the Marshalltown High School Envirothon team for
placing 21st in the National competition.
Updated the contractor list to show what services are offered by each
contractor. |
| September 2008 Considered 9 pending cost share
applications waiting for supplemental funding.
Commented on the valuable "farmer's perspective" information provided
by the representatives from Alliant Energy at the Fall Regional meeting.
Reviewed a list of eight resolutions that will be considered for
approval by CDI this fall.
Received the latest information on shared management units within the
NRCS organization.
Heard about a pending Conservation Reserve Enhancement Project in
Marshall County. |
October 2008 Responded to a request to help
sponsor the FFA soil judging contest.
Made plans to attend CDI Annual Conference in Ames.
Set guidelines for considering requests to amend waterway maintenance
agreements from 20 years to 10 years. Each request will be
evaluated individually.
Heard about the busy Fall construction season.
Reviewed information on the November General Election. Three
names will appear on the ballot for the three positions open:
